The Watershed Governance Partnership Table was formed to create a venue for collaborative stewardship with a whole of watershed approach. This government with government collaboration allows for a broad range of values and interests to be considered in watershed recovery and protection. Our mission is to protect the environment, respect Treaty rights, and promote sustainability for future generations.
Founded in 2024, the Watershed Governance Partnership was initiated by three Treaty 8 First Nations - McLeod Lake Indian Band, Saulteau First Nations and West Moberly First Nations. The Nations have been concerned about the health of the water and watershed for decades. The Watershed Governance Partnership is the result of more than a decade of advocacy to establish a forum where decision-makers and responsible parties can work together to manage and protect this important watershed.
Our vision for the Watershed Governance Partnership is to create a collaborative space where decision-makers can bring their authorities to planning, recovery and protection of the watershed.
We are grateful for the support and funding from Watersheds BC and the Indigenous Watershed Initiative (https://watershedsbc.ca/indigenous-watersheds-initiative/) and plan to sustain the Watershed Governance Partnership for many years to come.
